..

Selections from the concept album Britney Spears + Noise = HOT are finally up on Soundcloud (8 tracks supercomposing Britney songs with avant-garde and experimental music, featuring Arthur Doyle, The Dead C, William S. Burroughs, Nam June Paik, Sun Ra, Pierre Schaeffer). The full 8 track album (remastered) is also available for free download from Bandcamp.

In other news I have created a torrent for it on Pirate Bay, and would greatly appreciate it if anyone who has the spare bandwidth seeding it for a while (until it has enough seeds to stay active).  UPDATE: If you enjoyed this, you may also want to check out Volume 2 and Volume 3.

“Britney Spears + Francis Dhomont = HOT” (Mashup, 2010)

Monday, November 22nd, 2010

..

..

Minimalist musical mashup superimposing Francis Dhomont’s “Thème de la fuite” over top of Britney Spears’ “Circus.” Dhomont is an experimental composer credited with developing musique concrete as an art form in the 1940s and 50s. Part of the ongoing Britney Spears Best of Noise project. The first 8 tracks of this project were released on the concept album Britney Spears + Noise = HOT. Download the full album for free (in FLAC or high quality MP3) on my Bandcamp Page.

“Provence. A summer evening, the window open wide on a slowly darkening sky. Through this deep, blemishless blue, the flight of swallows: a strident, constantly changing feeding dance. The delicious night continues to fall. There are the sounds of the village preparing for the night festival; the echoes reach me. A jet begins its descent into Marignanne…” (Francis Dhomont)

“Britney Spears + Bruce Gilbert = HOT” (Mashup, 2010)

..

..

The seventh in my series of Britney Spears experimental remixes, superimposing Spears’ “Everytime” over top of B.C. Gilbert’s “Slot Andalou” (from the album Ordier). Bruce Gilbert was the guitarist for legendary avant-garde rock band, The Wire, who went on to produce a number of solo recordings in the 80s and 90s. Part of the ongoing Britney Spears Best of Noise project. The first 8 tracks of this project were released on the concept album Britney Spears + Noise = HOT. Download the full album for free (in FLAC or high quality MP3) on my Bandcamp Page.

This is not a remix, as such, but a rhizomatic layering (rhimix) of two tracks supercomposed over top of one another in the hope that multiple points of contact might be established between them, which would not have been there previously. The editing on each track is minimal as I am more interested in the chance occurrences which come from superimposing two separate tracks, rather than constructing a traditional remix. The ethics of this project is inspired by both John Oswald’s plunderphonics and John Cage’s Music of Chance.

“Britney Spears + Yximalloo = HOT” (Mashup, 2010)

..

..

Minimalist mashup superimposing Yximalloo’s “Why To Christmas” (from the album Fangs of Lucifer) over top of the Britney Spears song ’3′. Yximalloo (a.k.a. Naofumi Ishimaru) is a Japanese experimental/noise/pop musician, best known for his collaborations with Jad Fair of Half Japanese. Download the full 8 track album for free (in FLAC or high quality MP3) from Bandcamp.

From the 8 track concept album Britney Spears + Noise = HOT Vol. 2 (mashing Britney Spears songs with noise and avant-garde musicians). Part of the ongoing Britney Spears Best of Noise project. If you enjoyed this you may also want to check out Britney Spears + Noise = HOT Vol. 1 (including The Dead C, William S. Burroughs, Arthur Doyle, Nam June Paik, Pierre Schaeffer and Sun Ra).

“The trouble with Japanese pop, Yximalloo says, is that Japanese are brainwashed by caucasian culture. In Japan, 98% of people are following trends and only 2% of people are setting them. He recently heard Pizzicato 5 for the first time, and looks disappointed when I tell him they’ve split up.” (read more)

“George Bush Doesn’t Care About Black People” (SuperConcept Album, 2011)

Tuesday, March 13th, 2012

..

..

..

Concept album consisting of two minimalist compositions using a sample from Kanye West’s Runaway, inspired by Steve Reich’s experiments with ‘phasing’. In the technique of phasing a repetitive phrase (or loop) is played on two musical instruments in steady, but not identical tempo. At first the two layers appear to be in time with one another. However, because the two instruments differ ever so slightly in speed they gradually go out of “phase” with one another creating, at first, an echo effect and then a doubling of notes, before eventually phasing back in time with one another. Steve Reich explored this technique with the use of live instruments, but it can be effectively manipulated through sampling and remixing as well. Download the complete album (in FLAC or high quality MP3) on my Bandcamp Page.

Track 1: Rruunnaawwaayy: Supercomposition for Two Pianos (36 minute phase exploration of a 38 second piano sample from the hip-hop song Runaway by Kanye West). Track 2: Rrruuunnnaaawwwaaayyy: Supercomposition for Three Pianos (a second 36 minute exploration of the same 38 second piano sample).
