A nice poem Chen-ou. Despite the frequency at which children are born, each is near-infinitely precious. Connecting the birth of a new child with the blue moon emphasises this point very nicely. Moreover, there is a certain mystery to a ‘blue moon’ which also lends itself to the mystery of life.

Personally I think it might’ve been interesting to go without the cut, which would enable the middle line to serve as a satisfying pivot. But regardless, I enjoyed this. Thank you.

Reminds me of one I wrote a while back

    lunar new year
    everything’s a first
    for the second time

Bill, thanks for the read. I like your haiku, especially “everything’s a first / for the second time”

Hey Chen-ou, I know its been said, but this is a stellar poem. The first unit “blue moon” gives this piece an ambiance that immediately drew me in. Lovely!
