I have no idea why I like this poem – but I do. It just speaks to me. There is a cadence in the words which I like. I dunno – it is rhythmic and surreal in some way. I just like it. What more can I say…

Thanks Dick, it’s a true story, too, and comes from actual experience, which I hope gives it a strong presence. The “international cafe” was close to the faculty club where we stayed in Tehran, we used to walk over and have pizza or nachos… and really, friendly calls from cars as we walked by said… “my sister lives in California!” Thanks for the opportunity to share these really precious incidents… especially right before life changed dramatically there, as it was 2 weeks before the elections, It felt surreal… then and now… but it highlights the very everyday friendliness and identifucation we felt toward Americans by the people in Iran!

Wow – great story. No wonder it has resonance – it carries the milieu with it, though the specific details are lost.
