I’ve said it before, but it’s worth saying again… Wow! Just wow! I love this piece Laurence. It may well be my favourite of all your poems. It packs SO much into the space. The language is very tight and the imagery wonderful. Amazing work.

  2. Dick Whyte

Yeah – it an amazing poem. It suggests something very interesting about our desire to territorialization of space. Not that I think space travel is uninteresting – but the reasons governments fund it is a real hornet’s nest (to read it in terms of senryu). On the other hand the curiosity of the hornet on the windchime is a beautiful metaphor for the animality of our adventures in space (to read it in terms of haiku).

Lovely any way round you enter it.

Thanks guys! These are both such excellent readings! I was really trying to work with yugen in this piece. I’m glad it came across well. I do agree, space exploration is an interesting topic. I always wonder…we’ve screwed earth up so bad, if we did find another habitable planet, would we commit the same atrocities?

  4. Dick Whyte

Indeed! That was what I was getting at.

    …yes, we would!

i found this haiku v. appealing too.

    Thanks Janet!
