    What a coward. Sex, drugs and 13 year old girls . . . I don’t think so.

Polanski has done some remarkable films, however, this is beside the point (and which has more to do with all the support he’s been getting, not a so-called “miscarriage of justice.”). By this twisted logic, Phil Spector ought to be freed as well, no?

A simple mind-experiment: had this incident occurred years ago, but the person in question was a Roman Catholic priest, I doubt very seriously he’d be getting this sort of support.

Polanski has made some good films, and this incident may have happened a long time ago, but that shouldn’t exempt him from the rule of law.

I am thoroughly disgusted with Polanski and Whoopi. It’s like saying as long as you’re talented you can get away with rape. I saw a piece by Rex Murphy on the CBC, but unfortunately was unable to read the article this is linked to, as it only shows the headline. Not sure if I’m doing something wrong. Very good senryu Barbara!
    Stay inspired!

Thanks for the great comments everyone. And I agree – this strikes me as a clear class issue. And the law has this in it overall. Punishment is the “cost” of doing something illegal, it is the “value” of crime, as it were (no moral/ethical values left, just a value in dollars). Hence, those that have a lot of money can often afford the “cost” (better lawyers, buy your way out etc.). So the “upper” class is able to deflect crime by “paying for it.” When you look at it all the words used for law are also used for money – which, for me, indicates that crime is a part of the capitalist system.

    Any thoughts?

Hi Michelle. I had the same problem at first but then found the link marked as Daily Telegraph in brackets under the verse.

Ditto to the praise of your senryu Barbara.
